Abstract
Pearlspot being recognized as the state fish of Kerala. The_x000D_
seed production technology of Pearl spot ensures an avenue_x000D_
for the livelihood enhancement of fisherfolk through_x000D_
farming. The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research_x000D_
Institute (CMFRI), plays a vital role in disseminating the_x000D_
seed as a part of the project entitled “Empowerment_x000D_
of Scheduled Caste Fisherfolk through Entrepreneurial_x000D_
Capacity Building of Self-Help Groups in Marine Sector”_x000D_
funded by the Department of Science & Technology_x000D_
(DST), New Delhi under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan_x000D_
(SCSP) programme setup a Pearl spot seed production_x000D_
unit in Vallarpadom, Ernakulam district, Kerala. Self Help_x000D_
Groups (SHGs) were mobilized with the assistance of the_x000D_
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of ICAR-CMFRI and women_x000D_
participation as the essence of the gender mainstreaming_x000D_
was ensured.
