KVK Ernakulam organized a significant planting drive as part of ICAR’s 96th Foundation and Technology Day celebration on July 16, 2024. This initiative took place in the coastal village of Puthukkad, Ernakulam, on the banks of the Vembanad backwater, addressing the area’s recurrent floods and cyclones. Dr. P.A. Vikas, SMS Fisheries of KVK, led a talk on the importance of afforestation for soil and water protection, emphasizing the role of trees in maintaining ecological balance. The event saw active participation from the local community, with progressive farmers and KVK staff planting fruit trees such as guava, rambutan, and water apple. This collaborative effort highlights the community’s commitment to environmental sustainability and resilience against natural calamities.
