Ernakulam KVK Hosts Cookery Show to Celebrate International Year of Millets

Ernakulam KVK organized a cookery show on December 29, 2023, at ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi, dedicated to commemorating the International Year of Millets. The show aimed to showcase the preparation of traditional millet dishes from Karnataka for the local population, where millet dishes are relatively new.

Led by Smt. Sreedevi B. Angadi, Head, and Home Science expert at KVK-Belagavi, along with millet farmers Smt. Bhagyashri S Akki and Smt. Shilpa M. Marbad, the showcase included the preparation of Jowar roti, Joladh vadai, Jowar kadubu, Bisibelle bath, Talipattu, and ragi halwa. Additionally, Smt. Sudha Mankani, Head, and Home Science expert at KVK-Gadag, accompanied by millet farmers Smt. Shwetha Benni, demonstrated the preparation of Sorghum paddu (appam), bajra roti, millet manchuri, ragi ambili, navane hollige, millet mirchi, and cutlet.

Participants had the opportunity to taste these mouthwatering millet dishes. The cookery show was broadcasted live on LED walls installed at the CMFRI campus. Furthermore, the show was live-streamed on the YouTube channel of ICAR-CMFRI, ensuring a wider audience could benefit from the millet cooking demonstrations.
