The Ernakulam Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) organized a Recipe Contest on December 28, 2023, at ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI), Kochi, in commemoration of the International Year of Millets. The contest aimed to inspire culinary innovation by challenging participants to create unique and flavorful dishes that harmoniously blend fish and millets. The theme centered around crafting a Millet-Fish combo meal catered to the tastes of Kerala’s youth.
This contest celebrated the nutritional fusion of millets and fish, encouraging contestants to explore inventive ways of incorporating these ingredients into delightful recipes. Ten shortlisted candidates showcased their culinary expertise, with Smt. Raseela Khader winning the first prize for her creation of Poori made from Ragi and Pomphret roast. Smt. Anusmitha R secured the second prize with her Kodomillet-vegetable upma and Prawn piralan, while Smt. Prescilla Mascarenhas claimed the third prize for her Chama muthukal and Kaduku Avoli curry.
The winners were awarded cash prizes, with ₹7500/- for the first, ₹5000/- for the second, and ₹2500/- for the third position. Additionally, all participants received a consolation prize of ₹1000/- each. Winner certificates, participation certificates, and mementos were presented during the prize distribution ceremony, conducted by Dr. A. Gopalakrishnan, Director, ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi.
The Recipe Contest was broadcasted live on LED walls at the CMFRI campus and simultaneously live-streamed on the YouTube channel of ICAR-CMFRI, ensuring a broader audience could witness the creative fusion of millets and fish in Kerala’s culinary landscape.
