On March 1, 2023, members of the newly formed Farmer Producer Company (FPO) from the Thripunithura region embarked on a visit to the KVK’s Cage Fish Culture unit at Mattuppuram and the Pearlspot seed production unit at Karumaloor. Dr. P.A. Vikas, SMS (Fisheries), provided detailed insights into the technical and practical aspects of seed production. During the visit, partner farmers Shri. Jabbar from Mattupuram and Shri. Deepu from Karumaloor actively engaged with the visiting farmers, sharing their valuable experiences in farming ventures. Their first hand knowledge and expertise greatly enriched the discussions and provided the visiting farmers with practical insights. The newly formed FPO group expressed their intention to commence brackish water fish farming in a 1.5-acre area and cage farming in open water bodies. This initiative aligns with KVK’s mission to facilitate practical farming opportunities and address the challenges faced by farmers venturing into new agricultural domains. Such support is pivotal for ensuring the success of farming ventures, particularly in the primary production sector. The visit proved to be an invaluable learning experience for all involved, fostering knowledge exchange and promoting sustainable agricultural practices within the community.
