Few progressive farmers were identified as torch bearers and established STCs in their field. Capacity building was done such that they act as trainers for KVK trainees. They were paid based on number of trainees such that this activity forms an additional income source for them.
STC Rainshelter farming
In order to train the people interested in rain shelter farming, a model rain shelter training unit was established at the roof top of Mr.Shabi Mohan, Sruthi, Elamakkara, Ernakulam. Total of 68 farmers were given training at this unit among them 4 have constructed at their homes and started vegetable farming in rainshelters. KVK also started a paid training module on Organic vegetable cultivation in rainshelters at this unit.
STC-Mushroom farming
KVK is maintaining 3 mushroom farming STCs at the farm of Mrs. Rose Mary Nitha, Thazhaparambil, East Appangadu, Narakkal PO established during January 2015, at the farm of Mrs. Shyla P.V, Pazhangattu house, Manakkapady, Karumaloor PO, North Paravur established during July 2015 and at the farm of Mr. Hussain, Kizhakeveetil, Edavanakadu P.O, Vypeen Island, established during November 2015. They are allowed to charge INR 500 per trainee.
