The KVK Ernakulam conducted Idea pitching competition on Innovative ideas for waste management for school students during the Swachhata Pakhwada. Master. Manu Malik F.M.C.T.H.S.S, Karumalloor won the first prize, Kum. Meenakshi Biju, Chavara Darshan Public School, Koonamaavu won second prize and Master. Sonel M.Shibu, Master. Abhishek Shaji, F.M.C.T.H.S.S, Karumalloor together won third prize. The prize distribution ceremony was conducted on 26th December 2021 at F.M.C.T.H.S.S, Karumalloor. Smt. Sreeletha Lalu, President, Gramapanchayath, Karumaloor inaugurated, Shri. Peter, Principal, F.M.C.T.H.S.S, Karumalloor, and Shri. George Menachery, Vice President, Grama panchayath, Karumaloor, Dr. P.A Vikas, Subject Matter Specialist, KVK were present. Ideas of students include constitution of ward-level team to conduct orientation in each home on appropriate waste management strategy, conducting campaigns on usage of cotton reusable napkins in place of single-use plastics, promotion of electric vehicles, encouraging use of public transport facility, imposing ban on manufacturing of plastic carry bags, discouraging usage of low-quality plastic products, promoting usage of metal utensils in place of plastics, converting waste into manures, energy generation from waste etc.
